Carter Caldwell

Madison Lovette - KAOC Scholarship

Hello!  My name is Carter Caldwell, I am finishing up my last year at Wright State University studying to be a high school math teacher.  I chose this career because I wanted to make math fun for my students and help them become critical thinkers.  I also wanted a chance to make a positive impact in their lives.  I am also a swim coach in the area, as I was a high school swimmer and I wanted to share my love for the sport with younger athletes.  I believe swimming can teach you a lot about discipline, goal-setting, and hard work.  In my free time I enjoy doing family history research, spending time with my friends and family, and writing.  I think that building strong relationships is key to a joyful life and I try to be intentional with my actions.  I am so thankful for all the help that has been given to me on my journey as a college student and I hope to pay that forward one day.  Thank you for everything!!

Jonathan Goble

Jennifer Welling - KAOC scholarship

My name is Jonathan Goble and I recently graduated from Wright State University with a degree in Computer Science.  When considering what degree to look for, I wanted something where I could mainly sit at a desk and work quietly, interacting mainly with colleagues. That brought me to something I enjoyed as a kid. When I was about five, my dad gave me a children’s computer with educational games, but what caught my attention was the BASIC programming language built in. I played around with BASIC for years on that computer and a small pocket computer I received a few years later, and that ignited my love of programming. As an adult, I began teaching myself more advanced languages and reignited that love in the process, and I realized that a career as a software developer would be the perfect fit for me.
School is the most important thing in my life right now. But when I have free time and a pandemic is not raging, I volunteer my time to assist in running the Pokémon Trading Card Game league at No Limit Gaming in Kettering. I help new players learn the game and build decks, and also sanction, run, and judge tournaments. My programming skills helped me build a simple clock that we now put on a wall TV to display the time remaining in a round, which has reduced the number of ties in our tournaments. Through all of this work, I have learned that helping others is its own reward, and among other things, I particularly enjoy the “aha” moment.

Chynna Spitler

Nathanael Olander - KAOC Scholarship

My passion for science started at a young age where I was always asking questions and always learning.  I took those passions and pushed myself to study the wonder field of physics!  I will be graduating Spring 2022 with my BS in Physics from Wright State University.  In my time at Wright State, I have been a teaching assistant, learning assistant, an ambassador for the Physics Department, part of the College of Science and Mathematics Deans Circle, a member of the Society of Physics Student, and a member of the National Physics Honor Society.  I have also had the wonderful opportunity to conduct and present research for most of my time at Wright State.  Some of my favorite times at Wright State have been giving laser demonstrations at the STEMM Experience, giving a talk at the festival of research, and presenting my research at the American Geophysical Union conference.  After graduation I will be attending graduate school.  I hope to focus in Magnetospheric Physics and/or Heliophysics with instrumentation applications.  Long term, I plan to put together my passions for research, teaching, and helping others find their interests together to become a professor.

My name is Alek Kundla and I am a fourth-year undergraduate at The Ohio State University. I’ll be graduating this May with a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in Business. Upon graduation I will be starting my professional career in earnest in Austin, Texas working as a Software Engineer.

Outside of the classroom, I lead a project group in Code 4 Community, a campus organization that leads workshops to teach computer science concepts to underserved local schools. I have also served in various capacities in Ohio State’s undergraduate student government. This year, my software engineering and student advocacy interests have culminated in a collaborative effort with other Buckeye engineers to build a website which will better deliver instruction evaluation information to the student body. I am honored to be selected for scholarship by the Kittyhawk Association of Old Crows. To the organization and its sponsors, thank you for your support!

Bryse Wagner

Tristan Moore - KAOC Scholarship

Hi! My name is Bryse Wagner, and I am currently studying Computer Science & Engineering at THE Ohio State University. I will be graduating this spring, although I am sad to leave, I am super excited to be starting a consulting role with Accenture this summer. I am very interested in cyber security and hope to move my career in that direction at some point in the future! Outside of school, I love spending time with friends, cooking, playing video games, or playing euchre. This scholarship is going to help me focus more on school during my last semester instead of working, and for that I am extremely grateful!

In my free time, I love trying new coffees, reading, and exploring Dayton. After graduation, I hope to incorporate sustainable practices into the biomedical industry. I am so grateful for this scholarship as it allows me to pursue all my academic interests at University of Dayton, while relieving some of the financial burden involved.

Celeste Irwin

Tristan Moore - KAOC Scholarship

My name is Celeste Irwin, I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I am currently attending both Sinclair Community College and Wright State University in pursuit of a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering. This will be my second bachelor’s degree as I am currently transitioning from a career in sonography to computer engineering. I am also pursuing a semi‐professional career playing Ultimate Frisbee, but as of right now playing Ultimate is just a hobby. I enjoy listening to Korean pop (Kpop), reading, playing with my pets, and crocheting blankets. I am so thankful for all of the opportunities I have, including being able to go to school again. The scholarship from the Kittyhawk Association of Old Crows has been instrumental in allowing me to afford my schooling and I greatly appreciate the assistance as I try to navigate the difficulties of being a student and paying for school. Once I graduate with my bachelor’s degree, I hope to pursue a career in developing and improving diagnostic ultrasound equipment. By improving the current ultrasound technology, I hope to provide medical professionals with more advanced technologies to assist in the diagnosis and care of patients all over the world. Thank you again for the scholarship that has enabled me to pursue my education without needing to rely on student loans.
